Bobby Webb - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Harmonica
Bobby started playing guitar during college, but really didn't spend much time working on his skill until much later. Then one day in 2003 he had an idea to try an open mic event. Although his hands were shaking, his mouth went dry and he couldn't do his third song, life as he knew it, changed. The music bug had bitten, a whole new world opened up and things haven't been the same since. James Taylor was probably the biggest musical influence on Bobby, but he loves today's new country songs by artist such as Jason Aldean, Gary Allan, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Keith Urban and so many more. Bobby plays a lot during the summer down along the North Carolina coast in Beaufort where you can find him at the Dock House, Tiki Bar or the Cru Wine Bar and ever so often he will venture over to Swansboro. The Acoustic Highway band is another step in his musical adventure and he really enjoys the diversity of songs and styles in the group. The band plays in the Raleigh, NC area as well as down by the sea in Beaufort.
Donald “Donnie” Fowler - Lead Guitar, Vocals
Donnie's dad gave him his first guitar when he was 12 years old and he's been soaking it up ever since. Heavily influenced by Elvis, The Beatles, Johnny Rivers and many different country artists, he mixes his style with a bit of rock & roll and country. Suffers from a severe case of GAS (guitar acquisition syndrome). Don’t get this guy in a music store or give him a music catalog. He is constantly telling his wife that each purchase will be the last one.
Keith Hoeppner - Rhythm Guitar, Vocals
Keith is the late bloomer of the band. He started teaching himself guitar the night hurricane Fran came through Raleigh in 1996. Having been a music lover all of his life, he hung out with the bands Hal Lilly played with and went to many concerts in his younger years. Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin were his favorite concerts. His infuences are Mark Knopfler, Steve Earle, John Prine, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles. He recorded an instrumental CD in 2002, “Splittin’ Hairs”. He feels very lucky to be playing good music with good friends he has known most of his life.
Hal Lilly - Drums & Percussion
Hal saw The Beatles in 1964 on the Ed Sullivan Show. This changed his life. His cool Uncle Lewis, who was a jazz drummer in the sixties, taught him to play drums and he hasn’t stopped since. He played in his first band at age 10. Over the years he has played with local bands such as The Wildcats, The Collegiate Combo, Buck Rodgers Electric String and Keyboard Band, United Sound, Areoflyte, and Skippers Wheel. His favorite garage band is The Fifty\50 Band. Likes the set up. Good friends, no egos, tight and diverse.
Russ Turner - Bass, Vocals
Russell (Kent) Turner was hooked on guitars at age 6, hearing his grandfather play good ol’ country music in his south side Virginia home; he would sneak into Grandpa’s closet and strum that guitar when no one was looking. Years later, he could be found with his ear glued to the woofer of a friend’s hi-fi, moved by the booming bass notes. His parents bought him a used Vox bass guitar and Gibson amp and he was off to play in several Kinston, NC garage bands--mostly soul, beach, and R&B--around eastern NC clubs, military bases, and colleges. He joined Bill Lyerly’s Medusa band for rock gigs in the area, including opening for Steppenwolf at the Music Factory in Greenville. After a long break from performing, he joined his church praise team, playing contemporary Christian music. Going full circle, he joined Raleigh party-band Swade and Satin to play the R&B music he grew up with. Now with Fifty/50 and Acoustic Highway Band, the band chemistry was instantaneous and the mix of music refreshing, fun, and unique. Life is good!
